The White Russian was first mixed up back in 1949 when Gustave Tops, a Belgian bartender, dreamt up two luxurious cocktails, the Black and the White Russian. The difference? Well, the Black Russian lacks the indulgent cream. The White Russian exploded in popularity due to the 1998 cult-classic movie The Big Lebowski.
