Like most cocktails, the origins are a bit hazy. There are a number of conflicting stories about who invented the drink, and who exactly Alexander was, but the one thing we do know is that before there was a Brandy Alexander, there was just the Alexander, which was made with Gin only.

- 1 1/2 ounces cognac
- 1 ounce dark creme de cacao
- 1 ounce cream
- Garnish: grated nutmeg
- Add cognac, dark creme de cacao and cream into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or a coupe glass.
- Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
