Aviation Cocktail Recipe

Aviation-Cocktail-Recipe The Bottle Club

Very similar to a Gin sour, the Aviation gin cocktail combines maraschino liqueur to balance sour with sweet, and most versions use violet liqueur for a floral touch and a subtle blue hue. Aviation is certainly a quirky yet glamorous name for a gin  cocktail. So named due to the crème de violette giving the cocktail a pale sky-blue colour, the Aviation dates from the early age of aeronautics when air travel was a luxury that only the rich could afford.  Some will argue that you can’t make a proper Aviation without the violet-hued liqueur. However, even during it's absence, the Aviation continued to soar in popularity.

To follow the aviation cocktail recipe correctly, the Aviation cocktail ingredients must be shaken in order to include the right amount of air bubbles necessary to give it its soft, cloudy appearance.
