New Zealand Wine

The first planting of vines in New Zealand was recorded in 1819, and the earliest pro winemaker we could dig up was serving some delicious Kiwi white wines as early as the 1840s. So it’s a little strange that most people think New Zealand’s winemaking history only started in the eighties, when Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs started taking over the shelves. New Zealand’s wine excellence is a product of centuries of refinement, but the reason the world woke up to it in the eighties was an export law change that allowed New Zealand Wines to conquer foreign markets.

Because there are so many different climates in New Zealand, a wide variety of grapes can grow here. Dry whites like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are particularly prized, as are delicate Pinot Noirs. The wines on offer in our New Zealand collection come from some of the islands’ most famous producers, like Cloudy Bay award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, or Oyster Bay Chardonnay.
