Step Up Your Cocktail Game : Garnishes

If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t need to be pro-bartender to enjoy a good cocktail in the comfort of your own home! If you’re looking to hone in on those cocktail skills you’ve picked up over the last few months (big shout out to TikTok for all those delicious recipes) here are some great garnish ideas to serve up sharp-looking drinks!

SALT (OR SUGAR) THE RIM

Perhaps the most obvious (and most overlooked technique) is simply adding salt and sugar to the rim of a cocktail glass! The process couldn’t be easier: Rub water, or lemon or lime juice around the rim of the cocktail glass. Turn the glass upside-down and rotate it in a small plate of sugar or salt.

If you’re looking for something a little fancier than salt or sugar, try experimenting with flavoured sugar, bacon salt or even cocoa!

Herbs Herbs Herbs!

Herbs are the perfect way to had a bit of pizazz to your cocktails, providing a satisfying and oh so impressive aroma and appearance! Consider adding mint or rosemary to your gin cocktails. Alternatively look beyond the herb garden and onto your flowers – lavender is a great way to bring your cocktails to the next level!

Get Carving

A peel of fruit, a ribbon of chocolate or a perfectly cut orange are all great ways to up your cocktail game with very little effort! Try using a vegetable peeler to produce curls of chocolate by running it along a bar of chocolate. Or try peeling fruit to garnish your glass with - if your feeling up for a challenge try carving shapes out of fruit (or cheat by using a shaped cookie cutter!)
