Now that the sun is starting to make an appearance. , it’s time to enjoy a dram in the sunlight. Whisky is often associated with the cold and drinking it in front of a fire, perhaps because it’s seen as a winter drink, or because those whisky connoisseurs don’t want to mix their dram with ice. But there are countless ways to enjoy whisky in good weather. See our guide to enjoying a good glass of whisky in the summer heat.

Drink it cold

Whisky loves ice, ice loves whisky, whilst some whisky enthusiasts might not want to water down their favourite beverage, the ice can really help bring out the flavours, and helps make it perfect for summer sipping. In Japan, to prevent melting ice from diluting a slow drink, they use a large, single ‘ice ball’ that cools your dram but is slow to melt.

The original summer serve

You can’t beat a classic highball, the original ‘summer serve’ of whisky topped up with soda water and ice.

Lighter bodied drams

For summer drinking try a whisky with a lighter body. Auchentoshan is a great example of a light bodied whisky, because it is triple distilled.

In a cocktail

While whisky is often considered as a base for winter cocktails, there are some surprisingly tasty options that work in summer, too.
